The CANSail Program is Sail Canada’s national learn to sail program. The CANSail program is taught by trained and certified instructors and its curriculum is recognized by World Sailing. CANSail is focused on introducing and developing sailing skills in a hands-on way. Programs progressively introduce and develop the fundamental skills in a safe, fun, and active learning environment with lots of time spent on the water. CANSail programs are tailored to different individual’s age and stage of development – while fundamental skills are consistent, how they’re delivered changes to meet participants where they’re at.
Regatta Day August 23rd - day for kids to show off their abilities to their parents (Included with all programs).
Session sizes are limited and SYC members will be given preference. Sessions are filled on a first registered - first allocated basis. If your initial selection is filled, you will be contacted to discuss options.
Lunches are not included. Students have the option to purchase lunches at ‘The Galley’, located at SYC.

Totally Awesome Sail Training Experience
An introduction for kids with little to no sailing experience. A great way to get a feel for what sailing is all about!

Ages 5-8
This program is specifically designed for students ages 5-8 looking for a two week full day introductory Learn to Sail experience. Young sailors have fun while learning skills such as safety, rigging, balance, steering and sail trim.

CANSail 1 –Introduction to sailing. CANSail 1 teaches sailors the fundamental sailing skills including basic sheeting, steering, and boat handling on all points of sail. Sailors can sail within defined boundaries set by an instructor
CANSail 2 –Basic sailing. CANSail 2 teaches sailors to adjust their bodies and boats for changes in direction and wind speed while sailing, and to perform boat-handling maneuvers in a controlled manner while in a controlled setting.

Ages 8+
CANSail 3 –Intermediate sailing. CANSail 3 teaches sailors to integrate the fundamental boat handling manoeuvers and balance with basic tactics and strategy as well as applied sail trim.
CANSail 4 – Advanced sailing. CANSail 4 teaches sailors to perform advanced boat handling manoeuvers in a variety of conditions. Sailors can successfully execute manoeuvers in competitive settings and for tactical and strategic purposes.

Ages 12+
CANSail 5 – Basic integration of racing. CANSail 5 fully integrates boat handling with tactics and strategy. Sailors are also introduced to the concept of rig tuning and its relation to boat trim and conditions.
CANSail 6 – Full integration of racing. CANSail 6 fully integrates boat handling, sail trim, and rig setup with racing. Sailors train to perform all skills within a competitive race setting in order to achieve accurate sailing within a regatta and in all conditions.
420 Class dinghies are utilized in these sessions.
This program is ideal for the experienced sailor seeking advanced training in a racing environment.

Ages 18+
Our evening Adult & Family programs are offered on keelboats. Adults, and Parents with youth 10 years of age or older, are invited to enroll. Youth (<18) enrolling in the program must sail with a parent. Whether you are looking to formalize your sailing experiences, start from scratch, or just want to learn more, our instructors will be ready to teach you all the skills necessary to build confidence, or broaden your existing skills. Code Couple10 if you sign up as a pair to save 10%
Adult sailing will be conducted in Club 420's on Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6Pm until 9PM
based on skills achieved there will be Can Sail levels awarded.
